UN official urges Government to fund social housing

A UN representative provoked an angry response from politicians this week after recommending that the Government should be starting to fund social housing again in order to avoid breaching international treaties on housing.
Special rapporteur Raquel Rolnik also told Inside Housing that grant funding for developing social homes should be renewed. And she is quoted as saying: “I think there is a danger [the UK is breaching] the human right to adequate housing and its elements,’ she said. ‘One of these elements is affordability.”
